Barrel Derby & Artists Affair coming June 7th

It's that time of year again.  Get ready for Curlew's annual Barrel Derby and Artists' Affair on Sunday, June 7th.

This year we will be combining Barrel Derby with the Ansorge Artists' Affair again.  This combination seems to bring a bigger crowd, making both events that much more successful and fun for everyone.

Be sure to buy your Barrel Derby tickets and take your best guess for when the barrel will reach the Curlew bridge.  You can find your tickets at the Curlew Store and the River Street Market in Curlew, or you can pick them up at Anderson's Grocery in Republic.

The fun all starts on Saturday night (June 6th) with BINGO games at the Civic Hall.  Then Sunday morning you can have your breakfast at the Fire Hall beginning at 7:30 AM.  Then you can take part in the Fun Run at 9:30.  The Ansorge Artists' Affair runs from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM and the world famous BBQ Beef Dinner is available from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Better save some room so you can stop by the Ice Cream booth and get yourself a cone for dessert.  The 3 on 3 Hoop Jam starts at Noon, so get your team together now and start practicing!  And don't forget the Barrel Derby Parade that starts at 2:00 PM.  Don't be late or you might just miss it.

The Ansorge Artists Affair will have live local musicians performing all day.  This is your chance to see and buy some Fine Arts and Crafts.  You'll see soap makers, painters, fiber artists, basket makers, bead workers, story tellers, wire wrapping, etc, etc.  Call 779-4823 to reserve a booth.

This is a full day of fun for the whole family that you don't want to miss.  Be sure to show up early for the best parking.

BINGO dates set for 2009

Get out those 2009 calendars and mark the dates for BINGO at the Curlew Civic Hall. The Curlew Civic Club has scheduled their BINGO dates through October!

The first one up is on  Friday May 15th. The next one will be on Saturday June 6th.  The July Bingo date is set for Friday July 17th and the October Bingo will be during our famous Duck Derby on Friday October 16th.

The doors will open at 6:30 as always and the games will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.  CASH PRIZES will be awarded as always.  Be sure to bring your friends and neighbors and make an evening of it.  We've been offering snacks for sale as well as the usual goodies and coffee for refreshments.  We've even added Hot Dogs to the menu as well as Home Made Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches on Fresh Baked Bread!  So plan to bring some extra cash in case you get the munchies.  We've been getting bigger and bigger crowds at these events, and everyone has been having a good time.  Remember that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a Parent, Grandparent or Legal Guardian. Call 779-4716 for more information.

Welcome To The Curlew Civic Club On The Web

Only 72 years after the Curlew Civic Club was formed by a group of ladies in March of 1936, we finally have a website of our own.  Welcome to Curlew Civic Club (dot) Org!  We hope this new presence on the World Wide Web (www) will allow our visitors to keep in touch with upcoming events and perhaps find out a little bit about the history of our organization as well as some little tidbits about the early days of Curlew and the surrounding area.  We welcome your comments and input to help us create a website that we can all be proud of.

The first white man to come to Curlew was Guy Helphrey in 1896.  He and his partner bought some property with a log cabin for $100 from Chief Long Alec, where they established the first store in the area.
